Volleyball Defeated by Fordham in Back and Forth A-10 Contest

Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y. - In nearly the exact same fashion as the prior night, La Salle volleyball dropped another heart breaker on Saturday evening, this time at the hands of the Fordham Rams (13-15, 4-5 A-10). The Explorers held a 2-1 set advantage but were unable to seal the deal, ultimately losing 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 21-19).

After dropping the first set, La Salle churned out wins in the second and third before Fordham equalized the match with a 25-20 set four performance. The deciding fifth set was nip and tuck the whole way but the home team eventually edged out the visiting blue and gold in dramatic fashion, marking the second straight night the Explorers found themselves just inches away from victory.

New York native Kelly Scanlon put on a show, registering a season-high 27 kills (.293) while adding six digs. Double-double machine Samantha Tulskie did it all for the Explorers, posting 11 kills (.136) and 19 digs. Breanna Mazalewski chipped in with 19 digs and two service aces while Lauren Noga was the top hitter for La Salle at .364 (10 kills-2 errors-22 attempts).

Jennifer Whelan hit .353 (8 kills-2 errors-17 attempts) while Rachel Melich continued her weekend of strong serving, notching three more service aces and mixed in a team-high 31 assists.

As a team, La Salle hit .256 (69 kills-23 errors-180 attempts) while Fordham hit .267 (68 kills-21 errors-176 attempts). The Rams held an advantage in blocks, outdoing the Explorers 10.5 to three in that category.

The Explorers (4-21, 0-9 A-10) host a pair next weekend in its final homestand of the season. Charlotte (10/27, 7 p.m.) and VCU (10/28, 4:30 p.m.) are on the docket for La Salle. The Saturday match vs. VCU will contain senior day festivities.
