Field Hockey Opens A-10 Play At Lock Haven On Saturday


PHILADELPHIA – The non-conference season is in the rear-view mirror and the La Salle field hockey team will begin its quest to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the second straight season when league play begins on Saturday at Lock Haven.

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle has won two straight games and three of four to go into the A-10 portion of its schedule with some momentum. Last weekend, the Explorers defeated Bryant, 4-2, and Sacred Heart, 2-0. Senior Neelam Kumar and sophomore Maddy Tettelbach each had a goal and an assist during the weekend.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Shaffer made six saves in recording her league-best third shutout of the season versus SHU and had five saves vs. Bryant. She leads the Atlantic 10 in saves (89) and is second in saves per game (7.42). In her last four games she has posted a 1.25 GAA.

Shaffer and LHU freshman Stephanie Ebersole are both graduates of Lower Dauhpin High School.

Junior Olivia Shoemaker is third in the Atlantic 10 in shots (41) and ranks ninth in goals with five. Kumar is fifth in assists with five and Tettelbach ranks eigth with four. 

Sophomore Olivia Leaman ranks second in the league in defensive saves with three.


Scouting the Lady Eagles
Lock Haven has won five of six games to race to a 9-4 overall record as conference play begins. The Lady Eagles have been excellent in one-goal games, going 5-1.

Nakira Downes leads the team in points (14) and assists (eight). The eight assists lead the conference.

LHU has the second-best GAA in the league at 1.86 and has compiled the second most penalty corners on offense (6.92/gm.)

Lock Haven will play four of seven A-10 games on its home field, including tomorrow, where it is 5-2 this season.

Next up
La Salle will host city rival Temple for the final time in A-10 play on Friday, October 12 at 3:30 PM. The Owls will be moving to the Big East next season. Live stats and video will be available for the contest.
