Huseini Records Two Assists In Women's Soccer 2-1 Win At Richmond

Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Leigh Gray headed a beautiful cross from teammates Maryam Huseini and Gabriella Carbone to give La Salle Women's Soccer a definitive 2-0 advantage in the 33rd minute that the Explorers would parlay into a 2-1 victory over Atlantic 10 foe Richmond on Friday night.

The goal came just under four minutes after La Salle's first, a beautiful header into the back of the net from Junior Courtney Niemiec off a Huseini corner.

Huseini's corner was the final of three consecutive La Salle corner kicks as the Explorers continued to pelt Richmond goalie Andrea Young with shots from Gabriella Carbone, Amanda Komarnicki, and Huseini all coming within a minute span.

Richmond threatened late in the second half scoring in the 78th minute off an impressive Kristin Lescalleet shot from 40 yards out that slipped in just under the cross bar.

La Salle goalkeeper Gabrielle Pakhtigian recorded eight saves in the victory, denying Richmond's best efforts to net the equalizer.

“Our back line, our goalkeeper did such a tremendous job,” said head coach Paul Royal. Gabby came up huge with a couple of saves and I thought Diana Allen and Courtney Niemiec did a tremendous job shutting down Becca Wann.”

When the final horn blew, the Explorers outshot the Spiders 20-11 and went home with the victory.

With the win, the Explorers improve to 9-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in A-10 play.  La Salle returns to action on Sunday at VCU (7-3-3/2-1-0) at 1 p.m.

“Getting the girls the proper rest, getting the in the pool, getting some ice baths if they need to is going to be important,” explained Royal.  “It's going to be a real difficult game against VCU coming off their result tonight with a big win against Fordham.”
