Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – La Salle women's soccer's senior class became the winningest class in school history on Sunday when they overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat VCU, 2-1.
“It was a tremendous team win, especially for our seniors who just won their 10
th game this season and became the all-time winningest class,” said head coach
Paul Royal. “It shows their commitment and dedication for our program. It was great to see our work ethic and fitness level play a huge part in our perseverance for today's win.”
After relinquishing a goal just three minutes into the second half, the Explorers upped their pressure and ensuing attack recording 12 shots in the second half compared to three in the first. In the 77
th minute, junior
Ashley Chilcoat netted the equalizing goal, heading in a rebounded shot from sophomore
Kelsey Haycook.
With only 13 minutes remaining in the game, the Explorer's converted a Ram attack into a sophomore Anna Dolhanksy goal off a long pass from classmate
Maryam Huseini.
The goal was the third game-winner in the last four games for Dolhansky who redshirted last season due to a knee injury.
The win was the 46
th for the senior class, made up of
Gabrielle Pakhtigian,
Diana Allen,
Leigh Gray and
Jourdan McVicker and redshirt seniors
Amanda Komarnicki and
Erin Brennan. Additionally, they are the only class to record 10 wins or more in each of their seasons.
La Salle (10-3-0/4-0-0) returns to action on Friday when they host A-10 rival George Washington. Sunday will be senior day at McCarthy Stadium with festivities beginning at 12:40 p.m. and a reception following the game.
