PHILADELPHIA – Swimming seniors
Elizabeth Jordan,
Jessica Simunek, and
Blase Szyszko and freshman standout
Johan Roth will travel to Austin, TX to compete in the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships on Nov 29 – Dec 1held at the University of Texas. This marks the second consecutive year the Explorers have sent athletes to this prestigious event.
Jordan will compete in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles as well as the 100 yard breaststroke. She qualified for the 50 free and 100 breast at this past year's Atlantic 10 Championship and added the 100 free to her lineup after swimming a personal best and school record time of 50.82 at the Bucknell Invitational two weeks ago.
Simunek will compete in the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Simunek made both qualifying times with ease at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship. She is coming off an incredible performance at the Bucknell Invitational where she won both the 200 yard breaststroke (2:16.99) and the 100 yard butterfly (56.04).
Szyszko is making his second appearance at Winter Nationals, travelling last year with then-seniors
Austin Thomas and
Ed Carnes. Szyszko will once again swim his signature events, the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes. Szyszko, too, is coming off a successful weekend at the Bucknell Invitational, claiming second in the 100 breast in a time of 56.86.
Roth's blistering 2:02.39 in the 200 yard breaststroke at the Bucknell Invitational two weeks ago was fast enough to make the qualifying cut by exactly one second.
All four Explorers competing this weekend each have a top time in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Jordan and Szyszko have the 100 yard breaststroke and Simunek and Roth have the 200 yard breaststroke.
