PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball team returns home on Wednesday night when the Explorers host Dayton at 7 p.m. in Tom Gola Arena.
The Explorers will be donning pink warmups and sweatbands in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Members of the athletic department will be selling pink breast cancer ribbons for $1 at both games and will be accepting any flat donations to benefit the Kay Yow Foundation.
Wednesday marks the 30th meeting of the Explorers and Flyers, with the Explorers holding a 15-14 all-time edge in the series that dates back to 1993. The Flyers, however, have won six straight in the series, topping the Explorers 85-51 last year in Ohio.
Scouting La Salle (12-13, 6-4 Atlantic 10)...
The Explorers are coming off of a gritty win at Rhode Island that saw the squad score the game's final seven points to erase a three-point deficit in a 49-45 win.
Alexis Scott, who is now averaging 20.5 ppg over the last two, scored a game-high 21 points on a career-best four three-pointers in a career-high 39 minutes on the floor.
Brittany Wilson added 11 points, all in the second half.
Wilson continues to lead the squad in scoring with 13.8 ppg and Scott is right behind with 13.0 ppg.
Jada Payne chips in 9.1 per contest. The Explorers remain the only Atlantic 10 squad with four players averaging double figures in league play, including Wilson (15.4), Scott (12.5), Payne (10.9) and
Nadia Duncan (10.2).
With three blocks at Rhode Island,
Ruvanna Campbell became La Salle's all-time freshman single season blocks leader with 38, surpassing Suzi McCaffrey's 36 in 1982-83. She ranks fourth all-time overall, and needs seven more to move into a tie for third all-time with Linda French (45; 1986-87). Campbell continues to lead the squad in rebounding as well, averaging 8.1 boards per game.
Scouting Dayton (16-6, 8-2 Atlantic 10)...
The Flyers are coming off a tough 56-55 loss to No. 25 St. Bonaventure on Saturday, which snapped a six-game win streak. They led by as many as 15 before the Bonnies rallied to take the one-point win. The Flyers were led by Cassie Sant's 12 points as well as Justine Raterman's double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Raterman is one of two players averaging double figures for the Flyers, with 13.5 ppg. Andrea Hoover adds 10.2 ppg.
Raterman is also the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 6.5 boards per game. Also anchoring the Flyer defense is Casey Nance, with a team-best 32 blocked shots while contributing 5.2 ppg and 4.6 rpg.
The Flyers average 71.4 points per game while limiting opponents to just 60.8. They are also a perfect 5-0 on the road in league play this season.
