Day Three Results
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Junior Dan Fitzgerald won the 100-back, breaking the school record he set in the morning session, while classmate
Blase Szyszko took gold in the 100-breast as La Salle wrapped up day three of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships.
Heading into the final day of competition, the Explorers are in fourth place.
Winning the 100-back in 48.68, Fitzgerald shaved more time off his own record of 49.11 that he set in the morning.
Szyszko lowered his morning 100-breast time by three-tenths of a second to win the event in 56.30.
In the 100-fly finals, senior
Austin Thomas swam a 49.30, good for fourth, while senior Edward Carnes was right behind him in fifth (49.36).
Carnes also finished 13
th overall while swimming in the 100-back consolation final (51.84). Sophomore
Dave Derr clocked in at 51.42 in the same event, good for tenth.
Sophomore
Sean McCall helped the Explorers with an eighth-place finish in the 200-free (1:42.15). In the consolation final, sophomore
Cameron Cabrera (1:41.30) and juniors
Brian Batson (1:41.69) and
Zach Anderson (1:43.54) came in 10
th, 11
th and 16
th overall, respectively.
Freshman James Gravel swam his best 400-IM time of the year (4:03.12) to finish first in the “B” final and ninth overall.
Seniors
Eric Patenaude (4:10.83) and
Joe Jung (4:10.83) were 13
th and 14
th, respectively.
On the diving board, senior
Jordan Baker finished seventh with a score of 265.65.
The 400-medley relay was disqualified.
The championship meet will conclude tomorrow, with event preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m.
