Schoch's Early Blast Not Enough as Baseball Drops Rubber Match at ETSU 15-3

JOHNSON CITY, Tn. - A two-run home run by Marc Schoch in the first inning gave La Salle a 2-0 lead ibut ETSU scored 15 of the next 16 runs and won the rubber match on Sunday afternoon 15-3. 

Schoch's home run was his second of the season as the senior is tied with Dan Klem for the team lead in RBI with 10. Klem gave La Salle a 4-3 lead in the third with an RBI groundout but ETSU scored the game's final 12 runs to pull away. 

George Smith Jr. doubled in the fifth inning and extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games.  Smith leads La Salle in hitting with a .417 average (20-for-48). 

The Explorers (6-8) used seven pitchers in the game including six freshman.  Shane Petrellis (0-2) was the only non-freshman to appear on the hill and started the game while picking up his second loss of the season. The junior gave up five runs off six hits in two innings of work. 

La Salle ends their seven-game spring break road trip with a 3-4 record and will return to Philadelphia for a match up against city-rival Temple on Tuesday in Ambler. 

The Big 5 Baseball Bash will begin on Friday March 16 at Hank DeVicnent Field with a game against Buffalo.  La Salle will also play Saint Peter's and New York Tech at home next weekend.
