BETHANY BEACH, Del. - Sophomore
Mike Johnson carded a career-low of 68 on Saturday at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course as the La Salle golf team finished sixth out of 12 teams at the George Washington Intercollegiate. His four-under score was one better than the 69 he shot on September 11, 2011 at the Navy Invitational.
Overall, Johnson shot a 76-79-68=223 (+7) to tie for 14th out of 69 golfers.
On Saturday, La Salle shot a 297 to result in a 54-hole total of 901, the lowest team score in a three-round tournament in head coach Sal Caimano's eight-year tenure at LU.
Sophomore
Tyler Fewell shot a 74-75-76=225 (+9) to tie for 21st, while senior
Randy Kurzinsky carded a 74-76-77=227 (+11) to tie for 30th.
Senior
Ed Carnes had a 73-77-78=228 (+12) and freshman
Greg Goodreds shot a 84-82-76=242 (+26) to finish 50th.
Penn won the team event with a 866, 15 strokes ahead of second place Boston College. Delaware (882), George Washington (895) and Binghamton (897) rounded out the top five.
Penn's Max Marsico shot a 72-70-70=212 (-4) to win medalist honors by four strokes.
The Explorers return home to host the La Salle Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Talamore Country Club.
