Men's And Women's Crew Complete Day One At Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - The men's and women's crew finished up day one of competition in the Dad Vail Regatta with the Men's Varsity Eight and Varsity Pair both advancing to semi-finals on Saturday. The Women's Varsity Eight also advanced to reps Friday afternoon.
 
The Explorers were entered in seven categories, Men's and Women's Varsity Eight, Women's Junior Varsity Eight, Men's Varsity Four, Men's Varsity Pair, Men's Freshman/Novice Eight and Women's Freshman/Novice Four.
 
The Men's Varsity Four started off early Friday morning and finished sixth with a time of 7:08.11. First place went to Penn State at 6:46.99.
 
The Men's Varsity Pair posted a solid time of 7:47.85 and a second place finish, ahead of Rochester, Dowling and Rutgers. First place went to Lawrence at 7:41.67. The second place finish advances the boat to semi-finals on Saturday.
 
The Men's Varsity Eight also will row Saturday after a third place heat finish with a time of 6:14.15 ahead of Delaware and Ohio State. Michigan took first at 6:06.24.
 
The Women's Varsity Eight finished fifth out of six boats with a time of 7:18.87. The boat crossed the line ahead of Lawrence, which advanced the boat to reps Friday afternoon. First place in the heat went to Duke at 6:40.48. In the reps, the boat fought for second and a trip to the semi-finals, but ended up placing third at 7:13.37, just five second off of second place Lehigh.
 
The Women's Freshman/Novice Four took fourth with a time of 8:23.11, ahead of Saint Thomas and Emory. First place went to Florida State at 7:58.52.
 
The Men's Freshman/Novice Eight stopped the clock at 6:37.93 and a fifth place finish. First place went to Marietta at 6:10.16.
 
The final race of the day was the Women's Junior Varsity Eight. The boat finished in fifth place out of six boats with a time of 7:28.68, ahead of Marist. First place went to Saint Joseph's at 6:56.57.
 
Fans are invited to cheer on the Explorers at the Alumni Tent located around the 250-meter mark on both Friday and Saturday.

Semi-final times for Saturday are as follows:
Men's Varsity Pair – 9:02 a.m.
Men's Varsity Eight – 10:58 a.m.
