La Salle Well Represented On The All-Philly Division I Women's Lacrosse Teams


PHILADELPHIA – The All-Philly Division I Women's Lacrosse Team has been announced and freshman midfielder Caitlyn Brostrand and head coach Candace Taglianetti highlight La Salle's honorees after being named the Rookie of the Year and Co-Coach of the Year, respectively.
 
Other Explorers honored include All-Philly First Team selections junior midfielder Melanie Sarcinello and senior defender Rachel Baker.  The Second Team included senior goalkeeper Megan Corliss, Brostrand, freshman attacker Claire Andrews and senior defender Sara Ciaverelli, while junior midfielder Lauren McDermott, senior midfielder Nora McGurkin and senior defender Allison Herman were named to the Third Team.
 
Taglianetti guided La Salle to the program's all-time wins record as the squad added six more victories than the previous season (10-6, 3-4 A-10).  She shares the Coach of the Year honor with Penn's Karin Brower-Corbett.
 
Brostrand, also an A-10 All-Rookie Team selection, led the Explorers with 36 goals on the year.  This is the third-most by a rookie at La Salle. 
 
Sarcinello led the Explorers with 39 points on the season, while Baker was La Salle's leader in caused turnovers (16). Baker will graduate as third all-time in career turnovers at La Salle.
 
The all-time saves leader and all-time leader in minutes in goal at La Salle, Corliss had a 10.26 goals against average and .489 save percentage this season.
 
Andrews was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week twice during 2012, adding 25 goals and two assists.
 
Ciaverelli picked up 17 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers, while consistently shutting down the opposing team's top scorer all season.  The senior's 63 career starts are tied for fifth all-time at La Salle.
 
McDermott was third on the Explorers in scoring with 28 goals and seven assists.
 
McGurkin led La Salle in draw controls with 31 this season, while adding 12 goals and 10 assists.
 
Rounding out La Salle's honorees, Herman was a top defender for the Explorers this season, causing 13 turnovers, good for second on the squad.
