PHILADELPHIA - La Salle volleyball dropped their Big 5 Tournement opener on Friday  afternoon to Villanova 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-12).

The Explorers jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set, forcing a Villanova timeout in the early going. However, the Wildcats responded with a 22-15 run to close out the frame and never looked back the remainder of the match.

Breanna Mazalewski paced the Explorers' defensive effort with 13 digs, accompanied by 12 each from Kelly Scanlon and Samantha Tulskie. Scanlon and Kelly Perillo both finished the match with 8 kills apiece to lead the Explorers.

The Explorers resume their weekend tournament schedule tomorrow. Saturday's slate is listed below:
