Kempf’s Late Goal Forces Overtime; Explorers Fall To Rider, 3-2

Box Score
PHILADELPHIA –La Salle sophomore Colleen Kempf tied the score with 1:50 to play to force overtime but Rider's Marlaine Schneider tallied the game-winner six minutes into the extra period to give the Broncs a 3-2 win on Saturday at DeVincent Field.

Rider (5-1), which has won 24 of its last 27 games dating back to last season, controlled play in the first half and held a 2-0 lead at the half thanks to goals from Eefje Kok and Sandra Penas.

The Explorers played the second half with more energy and got on the scoreboard in the 49th minute when senior Becca Chylack blasted a shot off a corner into the back of the cage to make it 2-1. Senior Neelam Kumar and sophomore Maddy Tettelbach had the assists.

Chylack moves into a tie for seventh place on La Salle's all-time points list with 61 and is now eighth all-time in goals (24). Kumar is now fifth at La Salle in career assists (17).

"The final score definitely did not reflect our play," Chylack said. "It shows the fight in us and that we can come back from a two goal deficit."

La Salle (2-5) had several chances to tie the score late but it wasn't until Kempf found the cage in the 68th minute that the hosts would force overtime. Kempf took a rebound after a junior Olivia Shoemaker shot and scored her first goal of the season and third of her career.

The Broncs managed five shots and three corners in overtime before Schneider's goal gave the visitors the 3-2 win.

Sophomore Lisa Shaffer made 11 saves for La Salle, while Rider's Alicia Carthan stopped three for the visitors.

Rider held a 25-8 advantage in shots and a 14-2 lead in corners.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak at DeVincent Field for the Explorers.

La Salle will host city rival Penn on Wednesday at 5 PM.
