La Salle Hosts City Rival Penn On Wednesday


PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team hosts city rival Penn on Wednesday at 5 PM.

Scouting the Explorers


La Salle had its six-game DeVincent Field winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 3-2 overtime loss to Rider. Down 2-0 at the half, senior Becca Chylack got the Explorers on the board and sophomore Colleen Kempf scored with 1:50 to go to tie the game but the Broncs answered six minutes into the extra period.

Chylack moved into a tie for seventh place on La Salle's all-time points list with 61 and is now eighth all-time in goals (24). Neelam Kumar, who assisted on Chylack's goal vs. Rider, is now fifth at La Salle in career assists (17). She is third in the A-10 in assists.

Olivia Leaman leads the A-10 and is fourth nationally in defensive saves. 

Scouting the Quakers

Penn has dropped three straight games after opening the season 3-0. Julie Tahan leads the team with five goals and is second in the Ivy League. Ameila Cohen has added four goals.

The Quakers went 4-13 last season and 2-5 in the Ivy League.  UP averaged 4.7 goals in its three wins and 0.7 goals in its three losses.

Penn is coached by Colleen Fink, a former rival as a player at Saint Joseph's. Assistant coach Katelyn O'Brien also played for the Hawks. 


Series History

This is just the fifth meeting between the two city rivals.

La Salle will travel to Lynchburg, Va. this weekend for games against Robert Morris and Liberty.
