Penn Scores Late To Defeat La Salle, 4-3

Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – Penn's Elizabeth Hitti scored her second goal of the game in the 64th minute to give the Quakers a 4-3 lead and the visitors held on to defeat La Salle on Wednesday afternoon at DeVincent Field. Sophomore Colleen Kempf had a goal and an assist for the Explorers.

The high-scoring affair was a stark contrast to last year's game at Franklin Field in which Penn won 1-0 in double-overtime.

Kempf had assisted on senior Maddie Doub's goal in the 47th minute that tied the score at 3-3. The Explorers had a handful of chances to take the lead but Penn (4-3) goalkeeper Carly Sokach made three saves to keep the game knotted.

Following Hitti's unassisted goal the Blue and Gold rattled off four shots, including three in a six second span, but could not get the ball by Sokach, who made 11 saves for the win.

Kempf started the scoring off 42 seconds into the game off a pass from senior Janel Paukovits to give La Salle a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later Ameila Cohen tallied the first of her two goals. Emily Corcoran earned the assist.

A sophomore Maddy Tettelbach goal off a rebound made it 2-1 in the 11th minute but once again Penn answered when Hitti scored in the 29th minute.

The game remained tied at the half until Cohen's goal at 42:31 made it 3-2, Quakers. La Salle answered on Doub's first goal of the season five minutes later but could not overcome Hitti's tally in the last six minutes.

Sophomore Lisa Shaffer made six saves for the Explorers, who held an 18-12 advantage in shots and an 8-4 lead in corners.

La Salle (2-6) is back in action on Saturday when they take on Robert Morris at Liberty University at 3 PM.
