PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle volleyball team fell 3-1 (13-25, 25-19, 23-25, 18-25) to Fordham (9-10) on Friday evening at Tom Gola Arena in their Atlantic 10 Conference opener.
After dropping the first set 13-25, the Explorers bounced back with a strong showing in the second.
Samantha Tulskie registered 6 kills in the frame, while
Kelly Perillo posted 4 and
Kelly Scanlon chipped in with 3. The Explorers hit .268 as a team in the period and held Fordham to a .071 clip aided by 6
Breanna Mazalewski digs.
In the third set, La Salle held a 21-19 advantage before the Rams' 6-2 run closed out the stanza. With the fourt set at a 14-14 stalemate, Fordham took the lead and never looked back, rattling off 11 of the match's remaining 15 points to finish off the home team.
Tulskie recorded her 9th double-double of the season with 14 kills (.119) and 14 digs while Kelly Perlilo (10 kills (.233), 10 digs) recorded her first.
Freshman
Laura Kuhlmeier recorded the first 5 kills (.500) of her collegiate career and added 2 blocks.
Rachel Melich and
Michelle Healy paced the Explorers in assists with 22 and 20, respectively.
Breanna Mazalewski finished with 14 digs.
La Salle (3-13) is back on the court tomorrow afternoon, when they take on A-10 rival Rhode Island at 3PM at Tom Gola Arena.
