PHILADELPHIA - La Salle scored a season-high four goals and blasted a season-high 27 shots in recording a 4-2 victory over Bryant on Friday afternoon at DeVincent Field. Four different Explorers scored in the contest with senior
Neelam Kumar posting a goal and an assist to lead the way.
The Explorers trailed early on as Bryant scored in the 24
th minute on Michelle Fallon's tally. Five minutes later sophomore
Olivia Leaman took a pass from senior
Janel Paukovits and beat the goalie to tie the score.
The game remained tied through halftime and stayed that way until a pair of goals less than two minutes apart broke the game open.
In the 52
nd minute, Kumar took a rebound and fired a shot to the near side of the cage to give the Explorers (4-7) a lead they would not relinquish. Two minutes later, sophomore
Colleen Kempf took a nice cross from junior Heather Baretta for an open net goal to make it 3-1.
With time winding down, the Bulldogs made things interesting with a goal by Mallory Hancock with less than two minutes on the clock to make it 3-2.
But La Salle controlled play down the stretch and earned a penalty corner as time expired. Senior
Becca Chylack scored her team leading fourth goal of the season off passes from sophomore
Maddy Tettelbach and Kumar to add to the final score.
Kumar's assist moved her into sole possession of fifth place on the school's all-time list with 18.
La Salle held a commanding 27-14 advantage in shots and a 16-10 lead in corners. Both were team highs.
Sophomore
Lisa Shaffer made five saves in the victory. Megan Hancook stopped 11 shots for Bryant (2-8).
The Explorers are back home on Sunday at 2 PM when they host Sacred Heart.
