Early Goal Helps La Salle Beat Sacred Heart, 2-0

Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Maddy Tettelbach scored four minutes into the game and the La Salle defense recorded its third shutout of the season to beat Sacred Heart, 2-0, on Sunday at DeVincent Field.

“We did a nice job setting the tone early,” head coach Michelle Marks said. “Overall we did a nice job moving the ball and keeping possession and our individual defense was good. The two wins this weekend will help us go into the start of Atlantic 10 play with some momentum.”

Junior Olivia Shoemaker  scored her team-best fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute for some insurance and sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Shaffer  made six saves for her sixth career shutout, placing her fourth on the program's all-time list.

The Explorers (5-7) have now won three of their last four contests.

Tettelbach collected a saved shot off the stick of Mariel Papa and blasted it past the Pioneer keeper at the 4:02 mark for her second goal of the season. La Salle was unable to add to the lead until Shoemaker took a pass across the crease and found the back of the cage midway through the second half.

La Salle held a 16-7 advantage in shots and an 11-5 lead in corners.

Mary Altepeter stopped eight shots for Sacred Heart (5-5).

The Explorers open Atlantic 10 play on Saturday when they visit Lock Haven at 1 PM.
