PHILADELPHIA – The men's swimming and diving squad defeated the Loyola Greyhounds 181-110 in the Explorers' second to last home meet of the season. The Explorers proved dominant over the Greyhounds, winning 14 of the 16 events in the meet lineup today.
Of the 14 event wins today, the Explorers finished 1-2-3 in five of them. Junior
Greg Fischer garnered two of those wins, taking both the 100 and 200 yard butterfly distances in times of 52.57 and 1:57.48.
Freshman
Jonathan Cabral put together a perfect meet, winning all four events in which he entered. The Trinidad native claimed both the 50 and 100 yard freestyles (21.93 and 48.11, respectively) and was a member of both winning relays.
Senior
Blase Szyszko and freshman
Johan Roth exchanged wins in the breaststroke distances today. Szyszko first took the 100 yard breaststroke in 59.14 followed by Roth in 59.47. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Roth took first in 2:09.71 while Szyszko took second in 2:13.97. Roth went on to win the 200 yard individual medley as well, clocking in at 1:59.41.
For the third consecutive meet, Junior
Dave Derr won the 100 yard backstroke, touching the wall in 52.37. Finishing in second and third behind Derr was freshman
Justin Hughes and senior
Daniel Fitzgerald.
Junior
Cameron Cabrera took the 200 yard freestyle in 1:44.02 and was touched out in the 500 yard freestyle by teammate
Zach Anderson who won the event in 4:47.76.
On the diving boards, freshman
CJ Gimpel was perfect, winning both 1 meter and 3 meter with scores of 255.22 and 264.15, respectively.
The Explorers return to Kirk Pool on Saturday, February 2 to take on Penn for the final meet of the year before the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship set for February 20-23.
