PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey squad opens up Atlantic 10 play this weekend with a contest against city rival Saint Joseph's on Friday (10/11) at 3:30 p.m. at DeVincent Field.

Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers split their final two nonconference games last weekend, edging Bryant 1-0 on a late
Olivia Leaman goal before falling 5-3 at Northeastern.
Maddy Tettelbach drained two goals and recorded one assist against the Huskies and leading scorer
Olivia Shoemaker upped her season points total to 21 with a goal and assist. She also added the game-winning assist on Leaman's goal at Bryant.
Shoemaker's team-leading 21 points has come on a team-leading eight goals and five assists, and she is just four points shy of the top spot in the A-10 currently held by VCU's Emilie Soares. She also ranks fifth in the conference with her eight goals and is tied for fifth in the A-10 with five assists.
Maddy Tettelbach is also in the conference ranks, coming in at number seven in points (18) and tied for sixth with seven goals.
Mariel Papa is tied with Tettelbach for sixth in the A-10 with seven goals, and is tied for 10th with 14 points on the season.
Juliana Carfagno has been instrumental in setting up the goal scoring, as she ranks second in the A-10 with seven assists this season.
Defensively,
Lisa Shaffer has been stellar in goal, recording a shutout at Bryant behind 10 saves. She leads all A-10 goalies with 107 saves (8.96 saves per game) and ranks fifth nationally in saves per game. She also ranks in the top half of the league with a .743 save percentage, which ranks 25th in the nation. Leaman has also been a defensive stalwart, though she scored her first goal of the season in style as the game winner at Bryant. She is tied for first in the A-10 and fifth nationally with four defensive saves.
Scouting the Hawks
Saint Joseph's enters A-10 play this weekend after a 3-8 nonconference record, though the Hawks shut out Siena 2-0 in their final nonconference game on Sunday. The Hawks also have wins over Towson (1-0) and Villanova (5-3), while dropping three overtime games including a tough 3-2 decision to Fairfield in penalty strokes.
Jordan Martin is the Hawks' leading scorer with three goals and six assists for 12 points. Nicole Gerdes also has three goals along with two assists for eight points. Marin Vreeburg is tied for second with eight points thanks to two goals and four assists. The Hawks have registered assists on 14 of their 17 goals this season.
Rachel Barnett has handled the majority of goalkeeping duties, starting all but one game and recording a 2.30 goals against average and .732 save percentage. A number of Hawk defenders have also recorded defensive saves, with Eva Gekas and Melanie Colozzi turning away two shots apiece.
The Hawks were selected to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 this season based on a preseason vote of the league coaches, one spot behind the Explorers' predicted finish of fifth.
