Field Hockey Returns To Action For Pair of A-10 Contests This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team plays a pair of Atlantic 10 contests this weekend, first at Massachusetts today at 3 p.m. along with a home contest against Lock Haven on Sunday (10/20) at noon.

Scouting the Explorers

The Explorers suffered a 3-1 defeat to Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 opener last Friday under driving rain at DeVincent Field, the first loss of the season on home turf. Colleen Kempf netted the lone goal for the squad when she tipped in an Olivia Leaman shot.

Olivia Shoemaker continues to lead the team in goals and points, netting eight goals and adding five assists for 21 points. She ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 in both goals and points as well. Maddy Tettelbach is tied for seventh in points with 18 on seven goals and four assists. She is also tied for seventh along with teammate Mariel Papa with seven goals. Papa is third on the team with 14 points. Juliana Carfagno leads the team and is tied for third in the league with seven assists.

Lisa Shaffer leads the A-10 with 116 saves and is fourth in the A-10 with a .744 save percentage.

Scouting the Minutewomen

The Minutewomen are once again among the top teams in the country, coming in at No. 10 in the latest NFHCA poll. They have topped two ranked teams this season, including a 3-2 triumph over No. 9 Michigan and 4-2 win over No. 19 Boston College. Three of their four losses have come to top-6 teams and the fourth was against a New Hampshire squad that consistently flirts with the top 20 rankings.


UMass topped Saint Louis 11-0 in the Atlantic 10 opener last weekend in which nine different players connected for goals.

Five different players have at least 10 points this season, led by Brooke Sabia's 22 on 11 goals. Hannah Prince and Alexa Sikalis have 14 points apiece, mostly on assists. Prince has three goals and eight assists, while Sikalis leads the A-10 with 12 assists along with one goal. Lauren Allymohamed is second in goals with six and has a total of 12 points. Molly MacDonnell has recorded five goals and one assist to round out the double-digit scorers.

Sam Carlino has spent every minute in goal, recording a 1.41 goals against average and .730 save percentage along with five shutouts.

Scouting the Eagles


Lock Haven enters the weekend with a 10-4 record but looking to halt a two-game skid. LHU dropped its last contest at Lehigh 2-1 after being edged 4-3 in the Atlantic 10 opener against St. Francis (Pa.).

Four players have at least 14 points, led by Kelly Harsh and Nakira Downes with 17 points each. Harsh has connected for seven goals and three assists, while Downes has five goals and a team-leading seven assists. Taylor Kennedy is a point behind with 16 on seven goals and two assists, and Lydia George is at 14 points on four goals and six assists.

Elaina White has seen the majority of time in goal, sporting a 1.37 goals against average and is second in the Atlantic 10 with a .806 save percentage.
