PHILADELPHIA - Lock Haven scored early and often, putting up a 3-0 halftime lead and eventually defeating the La Salle field hockey squad 5-0 at DeVincent Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles' Nakira Downes was unstoppable, recording a hat trick and assisting on one other goal for a seven-point day. Rachel Valentine and Lydia George each recorded goals as well.
The Explorers (4-11, 0-3 Atlantic 10) had several opportunities, including back-to-back shots at close range by
Mariel Papa and
Maddy Tettelbach in the 42nd minute but the squad could not solve LHU keeper Elaina White who ranks second in the league with an over 80 percent save percentage.
The Eagles' (12-4, 2-1 Atlantic 10) offense was nearly flawless, putting 20 of its 23 shots on goal. La Salle keepers
Lisa Shaffer and
Rachel Hartman split time in goal, both recording seven saves.
Jessica Deaner also recorded a defensive save for the Explorers.
LHU recorded a 23-13 shot advantage, while La Salle owned an 8-3 penalty corner edge.
The Explorers return home on Friday (10/25) when they host St. Francis (Pa.) at 3:30 PM.
