Box Score
PITTSBURGH—La Salle women's soccer was paced by
Kerri Aiken's two goals at Duquesne to upend their conference rival, 3-0, on Sunday. The junior's first tally in the 21
st minute would prove to be her second game-winning goal of the season.
The Blue and Gold controlled much of the offense in the first frame, outshooting the Dukes 12-4 to start the game. Aiken would finish a pass from classmate
Kelsey Haycook out of a scrum in front of the net to give La Salle the 1-0 lead early on. The assist is the seventh of the season for Haycook, who currently leads the conference in points (33).
La Salle's second score would come off the head of freshman
Marykate Bateman, her second of the season. Bateman headed a cross from teammate
Jessika Kagan out of the reach of Dukes goalkeeper Ashley Szalwinski to give La Salle the 2-0 going into halftime.
The Explorer's third and final good would once again be supplied by Aiken, although this time off the foot of La Salle's leading assist generator this season, sophomore
Maryam Huseini. Huseini sent a restart into the box and found the foot of Aiken to help it along.
Huseini's 11 assists this season move her into sole possession of third place in the single season category, just one shy of entering a three-way tie for first in the category.
Sophomore
Jessica Wiggins registered two saves for the Explorers en route to earning her fifth win of the season, improving her record to (5-2-2).
La Salle (11-4-2/3-2-1 A-10) will return home for its final two games of the regular season, squaring off against Dayton under the lights of McCarthy Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. and hosting George Mason at 3 p.m. on Sunday for their first matchup as conference rivals.
