Explorers Controlled by Fordham in Three Sets

BRONX, NY – The Explorers traveled up I-95 for a Sunday early afternoon tilt against Fordham. The Blue & Gold hoped to salvage a split of their weekend road trip, after falling to Saint Louis in straight sets Friday evening. The Rams controlled the Explorers from the outset, winning the match in three sets (25-10, 25-16, 25-20). Kelly Perillo played an excellent match for the Explorers, notching 7 kills (.143), 6 digs, and a match high 4 service aces. Michelle Healy led the Blue & Gold with 11 assists, while chipping in 2 kills and 5 digs.
 
La Salle hoped it could crack the conference win column for the first time this season against a Fordham team that has likewise struggled out of the gate. The Rams offense did not have trouble getting things going this afternoon, as they repeatedly attacked the Explorers on the outside. Fordham (9-16; 2-7 A-10) held a sizeable 39-26 advantage in kills and a 47-38 margin in digs.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Perillo led the Explorers with 7 kills, rebounding nicely after being held in check the last few matches. She also chipped in 6 digs and a career high 4 service aces.
 
Freshman middle hitter Ashley Felton contributed 6 kills (.200), while adding a block assist. Her 6 kills were the highest mark she has posted in conference play this season.
 
Sophomore setter Michelle Healy led the Blue & Gold with 11 assists, while also adding 2 kills and 5 digs. Junior setter Rachel Melich added 9 assists and 5 digs.
 
Sophomore libero Erin Noga led the Explorers with 11 digs.
 
The Explorers (1-26; 0-9 A-10) return to action this coming Friday, as they travel to VCU for a 7:00pm match with the Rams.
