Field Hockey Wraps Up Nonconference Play In New England This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team wraps up nonconference play with a pair of games this weekend, including a match at Bryant on Friday (10/4) and at Northeastern on Sunday (10/6).

Scouting the Explorers

The Explorers are coming off of a 4-2 win over Lehigh last Sunday behind two goals from senior Mariel Papa. Olivia Shoemaker and Maddy Tettelbach also recorded goals, while keeper Lisa Shaffer made 10 saves to preserve the win.

Shoemaker leads the team with 17 points on seven goals and three assists, and is tied for third in the Atlantic 10 in total points. She and Papa are also tied for the team lead (fourth in the Atlantic 10) with seven goals. Tettelbach rounds out the top three, recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Juliana Carfagno now leads the A-10 in assists per game and is tied for first in total assists with seven. That ranks her 25th nationally as well.

Shaffer has played every minute in goal this season, ranking first in the A-10 in total saves with 90 and fifth nationally with 8.90 saves per game. Her .738 save percentage has moved her into the top half of the league, where she ranks fourth among conference goalkeepers. Olivia Leaman continues to lead the A-10 (tied for third nationally) with four defensive saves.

Scouting the Bulldogs

Bryant has had a breakout season so far, posting a 7-2 record with losses to Holy Cross and nationally ranked Albany. The Bulldogs recently had a seven-game win streak snapped by the Crusaders and look to bounce back from that loss.

Six of Bryant's seven wins have come by one-goal margins, including an overtime victory against Colgate.

Rosie Bird leads the offensive attack with 23 points (2.88 pts/game) this season, good for fourth nationally. She ranks seventh nationally with 1.18 goals per game (nine total). Olivia Jankins has added 15 points on five goals and five assists. Sisters Mallory and MaKayla Hancock round out the next two scorers. Mallory leads the squad with six assists and has added two goals for 10 points. Defender MaKayla has chipped in seven points on two goals and three assists.

Third Hancock triplet Megan has seen every minute in goal this season, recording a 2.63 goals against average and .696 save percentage.

Northeastern enters Sunday's game with a 3-7 record and looking to snap a six-game losing streak. The Huskies have played an intense schedule this year, with five opponents ranking in the NFHCA top 20 at some point this season. The squad also defeated now-No. 12 Albany 1-0 in a preseason exhibition.

Emmy Zweserijn leads the squad with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Lindsay Bennett has added 11 points on four goals and three assists, while Natalie Stewart (2g, 2a) and Vanessa Pryor (3g) each have six points apiece.

Becky Garner has seen the majority of time in goal, recording a 2.26 goals against average and .694 save percentage.
