PHILADELPHIA – The Explorers concluded their 2013 season on Sunday afternoon, celebrating senior day with a matchup against Duquesne at Tom Gola Arena. The Dukes proved too much for the Blue & Gold to handle, as the Explorers fell in straight sets (16-25, 9-25, 11-25).
Kelly Perillo led the Explorers with nine kills (2 errors – 23 attacks - .304 hitting%), adding four digs.
Rachel Finkbeiner concluded her La Salle career with three kills and two block assists.

The Explorers honored senior captain
Rachel Finkbeiner before opening serve, celebrating a fine career in which she appeared in 108 matches and notched over 280 career kills.

Finkbeiner came out on fire, celebrating her final game wearing the Blue & Gold in style, notching three kills and two block assists in the opening frame. The Explorers started off slow, as Duquesne picked up the first five points of the opening set. However, the Explorer battled back to take six of the next eight points to cut the deficit to one at 7-6. The teams traded the next two points, before the Duquesne offense began to establish a rhythm. They went on 10-3 run to grab firm control of the opening frame at 18-10. The Explorers battled to hang-in, taking six of the next ten points to cut the deficit to six at 22-16. However, that was as close as they would come, falling 16-25 in the opening set.

The Duquesne offense found its rhythm in the next two sets, as the Explorers struggled to contain the powerful Dukes. Duquesne racked up 43 kills in the contest, hitting a blistering .500 (6 errors – 74 attacks).

"This season obviously did not go the way we wanted it to," Finkbeiner said. "But I'm proud of how hard this team worked. It was a building year, I'm sure next year they will be better."

Jennifer Whelan collected five kills (3 errors – 19 attacks - .105 hitting%), while adding a block assist.

Michelle Healy led the Explorers with 11 assists, adding 2 kills (six attacks - .333 hitting%) and six digs.

Rachel Melich collected nine helpers, while notching three digs.
