Huseini Breaks Assist Record In 5-0 Rout Of George Mason

Box Score
PHILADELPHIA—La Salle women soccer's offense erupted in a 5-0 shutout of George Mason on senior day at McCarthy Stadium.  Maryam Huseini broke La Salle's single-season assist record in the match, tallying two assists on the day and bringing her total this year to 13. The previous record (12) was shared by Traci Depasquale (2009) and Tracey Spinelli (2000).  The junior currently sits in third in the all-time assists category (26), just seven away from breaking the record set by Amy Schneider (1999-02).

The win rounded out the regular season for the Explorers (13-4-2) as the squad heads to Richmond, Virginia for the Atlantic 10 tournament later this week.

The Blue and Gold scored early and often in the contest with Jessika Kagan netting the game's first goal in just the third minute of play. Kelsey Haycook's fancy footwork beat George Mason goalkeeper Lyndsey Hokanson and Kagan was there to drive the ball to the back of the net for the score.

Later in the half, senior Renee Washington scored her seventh goal of the season, heading in a corner from Huseini to give La Salle the 2-0 lead at the break.

Halftime would not cool the Explorers white hot offense as senior Courtney Niemiec would net her first of the season in the 60th minute for the 3-0 lead.  Huseini would again deliver a corner into the box, this time finding the head of Niemiec for the goal.

Huseini would have her turn to score, connecting with Washington and Haycook in the 69th minute to bury her first goal of the season in point blank range.

La Salle's fifth and final goal came off the foot of freshman Marykate Bateman. Anna Dolhansky rifled a shot at goalkeeper Briana Kottler who made a diving save, sending the deflection in the direction of Bateman who cleaned up the leftovers for the score.

The shutout was the 11th of the year for La Salle and was credited to sophomore Jessica Wiggins. Wiggins has recorded seven shutouts this season and has amassed a 7-2-2 record on the year.

The Blue and Gold will travel to Richmond to defend their crown as Atlantic 10 Champions later this week.  Complete details will be released by the conference office later this evening.
