Rowing Competes At Head of the Occoquan


FAIRFAX STATION, Va. - The La Salle varsity eights traveled to Virginia this weekend for the annual Head of the Occoquan race.

The men's V8 clocked a 16:48.64 to finish 13th out of 18 boats in the race, well ahead of next finisher Washington College (17:09.54). George Mason won with a time of 15:36.07. The Explorer boat included Jack Schall, Bill Smith, Tyler Sullivan, Matt Cardin, Marcus Brown, Dan Carmody, Kevin Sullivan, Vince Granese, and coxswain Nichole Isola.

The women's V8 finished in 18:42.90, edging Pittsburgh by 11-hundredths of a second to take 18th place out of 33 boats. Georgetown won the race in 16:59.28. The Explorer boat was rowed by Katie Van Stone, Catherine Goldschmidt, Tayler Horne, Emily Loughlin, Maddie Haaga, Bernadette Stanko, Amanda Ryan, Kirsten Kershbaumer, and coxswain Maura Green.

The Explorers wrap up the fall racing season on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the annual Frostbite Regatta on the Cooper River.
