KINGSTON, R.I. - Meghan McGlinchey defended her indoor A-10 title in the 5000m run, clocking a 16:32.98 en route to cruising to a first place finish on Saturday afternoon. The senior, who had not competed all indoor season with an injury, crossed the finish line over 38 seconds in front of the second place runner. Her finish fell .84 seconds shy of the conference record.

"The goal before the race was to be able to run a time to score in the fast heat," McGlinchey said. "Coach Ireland and I  barely talked about being able to win because we were not sure what kind of shape I was in. We just knew we would be happy with anything under 17 minutes especially since I was lucky enough to come back from my injury in time for A-10s."

McGlinchey's 10 point showing highlighted the day for the Explorer women, who enter Sunday with 16 team points, good for sixth place at the halfway mark.

The distance medley relay team (Hutchinson, Conville, Pisco, Hackett) finished third with an 11:54.39 showing, earning six team points for the Blue and Gold.

Michelle Capozzi and Meghan Lutz both finished in the top half of the 5000m run, placing 12th (17:54.01) and 15th (18:06.66), respectively.

In prelims, Cayleigh Solano placed seventh (18-runner field) in the 800m with a 2:17.51.

The Explorer women are back in action from Kingston tomorrow. Look for a full recap on GoExplorers.com
