GENEVA, Ohio – The men's swimming and diving squad was led by strong performances from senior
Daniel Fitzgerald and junior
Sean McCall on the second day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Currently, the men's team sits in sixth place with 145.5 points.
Fitzgerald was inarguably the fastest Explorer in the pool tonight, touching the wall in the 50 yard freestyle in 20.56 to finish in fifth place overall. But it was Fitzgerald's split on the 200 yard freestyle relay that was most impressive. The Dresher, Pa. native split an amazing 19.93 and was one of just three swimmers in the event to break the 20-second mark.
“Breaking the 20-second barrier is a huge accomplishment,” said Fitzgerald. “I'm excited to see how the rest of the meet unfolds.”
McCall recorded a personal best time in the 500 yard freestyle in this morning's preliminaries and managed to better that time in tonight's finals. He touched the wall in 4:31.38 to finish in a tie for sixth place with St. Bonaventure's Elias Homerin.
On the 1-meter board, freshman
CJ Gimpel and
Robert Freeling provided a pair of clutch performances. Gimpel scored 257.65 points to finish in fourth place while Freeling totaled 229.55 points to place sixth.

th and 14
th place, respectively, in the 200 yard individual medley. Roth bettered his time from preliminaries by nearly two tenths of a second to finish in 1:53.53 while Gravel added half a second to finish in 1:53.58.
