GENEVA, Ohio – In one of the more exciting races of the evening, senior
Daniel Fitzgerald fought hard to hold off the charging Vatslav Lets but ultimately lost his lead to the Russian and finished in second place in the 100 yard backstroke final. Fitzgerald's time of 48.76 was a mere six one-hundredths of a second shy of Lets' winning time. Although he settled for the silver medal, Fitzgerald's Atlantic 10 conference record that he set in preliminaries will stand for at least one year.
Freshman
Johan Roth put together one of the fastest 100 yard breaststrokes in recent La Salle history and nearly broke a 22-year-old record in the process. Roth's time of 56.05 was just 21 one-hundredths of a second short of Olympian Eric Buhain's mark. Senior
Blase Szyszko swam his last ever 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 57.03 to finish in 12
th place.
Junior
Cameron Cabrera had another great performance in the 200 yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:39.72 to finish seventh. Cabrera's time was another personal best and just thirty-nine one-hundredths of a second shy of the 31-year-old school record. Junior
Sean McCall bettered his preliminary time by one one-hundredth of a second, touching in 1:41.10 to finish 16
th.

Dave Derr reached a great milestone in his 100 yard backstroke final tonight. The Willow Grove, Pa. native broke through the 50-second mark for the first time, posting a time of 49.89 to place sixth.
Sophomore
Kip Gravel recorded a personal best in the 400 yard individual medley, racing to a 4:01.61 to finish in 11
th place.
The men's squad is tied for sixth with Fordham with 239.5 points. The final day of the Atlantic 10 Championship begins tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
