GENEVA, Ohio – The men's swim and dive team finished in seventh place at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship as the final session concluded on Saturday night. Freshman
Johan Roth gave the Explorers the best performance of the evening as the South African took gold in the 200 yard breaststroke, re-breaking his own newly set school record in a time of 2:00.70.
Roth fended off the charging Michael Glenn (2:00.93) who closed his final 50 yards a full second faster than Roth. Senior
Blase Szyszko placed eighth in is final collegiate swim, touching in 2:04.68.
Freshman
CJ Gimpel notched his second fourth place finish of his first A10s, scoring 236.70 points on 3-meter. Right behind him was junior
Robert Freeling who racked up 225.30 to finish fifth.
Senior
Daniel Fitzgerald, in his last individual swim, touched in 45.35 in the 100 yard freestyle for a seventh place finish. Fellow senior
Brian Batson finished 16
th in his last individual 100 free, hitting the wall at 46.43.
Sophomore
Stefan Sharpe recorded the top time in the 1650 yard freestyle, posting a 16:00.27 to place 10
th.
Freshman

Kip Gravel represented La Salle in the 200 yard backstroke, recording times of 1:52.41 and 1:53.72, respectively, to finish 14
th and 16
th.
Junior
Sean McCaffrey left everything he had in the pool on his final 200 yard butterfly of the season, dropping another full second from his preliminary time where he posted a personal best by almost four seconds. McCaffrey's 1:52.46 was a full five seconds faster than his time at last year's championship – his performance earned him bragging rights as the top 200 flyer for the Explorers. Fellow juniors
Greg Fischer and
Sean McCall posted times of 1:54.05 and 1:54.64, respectively, to place 13
th and 14
th.
The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship concludes the 2012-2013 season. The Explorers begin training for the 2013-14 season at the beginning of this coming fall semester.
