LUBBOCK, Texas – A night after the La Salle offense exploded for six runs and 13 hits, the Explorer bats were kept silent in a 3-0 loss at Texas Tech on Friday evening at Rip Griffin Park. Dan Klem notched his third consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot. The senior is batting .500 (7-for-14) over those three games.

The Red Raiders improved to 6-5 on the year while the Blue and Gold dipped to 2-4.

The Explorer bats were contained all night long by Red Raider starter Trey Masek, who impressively threw a complete game shutout. The hurler struck out 12 and walked none, improving his record to 2-0 on the year.

George Smith, Jr. Collin McGowan, Justin Korenblatt, and Joey Ravert each scattered hits off Masek, but the Explorers failed to capitalize with its few opportunities with runners in scoring position.

Shane Hollman suffered his first loss of the year, giving up one earned run in three innings of work as the starter. Austin Clark relieved Hollman and worked three scoreless innings. Luke Reilly threw two-thirds of an inning in his first taste of collegiate action and was charged with one earned run.

Texas Tech scored one in the second and picked up two more in the seventh, which proved to be more than plenty for Masek.

The Explorers and Red Raiders lock heads again on Sunday at 2 PM in the series rubber match.
