PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle rowing program opened its spring 2013 race schedule on Saturday, taking on Drexel, Delaware and Saint Joseph's in a quad meet on the Schuylkill River.

The Explorers rowed three men's boats and four women's boats.

On the men's side, the varsity eight raced a head-to-head with Drexel, finishing in 6:10.4. The Dragons finished in 6:03.4.

The second varsity eight clocked a 6:29.5 against two Drexel boats. Drexel's 'A' boat finished in 6:07.3 and the 'B' boat in 6:18.5.

The novice four was also on the water, clocking a 7:13.6 also against two Drexel boats. Drexel 'B' won in 6:42.4 and the Dragons' 'A' boat was second in 6:45.2.

On the women's side, the varsity eight topped Delaware by 14 seconds in a four-boat race. The Explorers clocked a 7:05.5 to the Blue Hens' 7:19.5. Saint Joseph's won the race in 6:55.3 and Drexel was second with an even 7:00.0.

The second varsity eight posted a time of 7:24.2. Drexel won that race in 7:01.4, followed by St. Joe's (7:10.4) and Delaware (7:15.0).

The varsity four was in action, clocking an 8:21.6. St. Joe's won in 7:50.0, followed by Delaware (8:04.4) and Drexel (8:08).

Rounding out Saturday's lineup was the novice eight, which topped Delaware by over 20 seconds. The Explorers rowed a 7:35.0 to Delaware's 7:56.2. Drexel won win 7:15.2 and St. Joe's was second in 7:28.9.

The Explorers return to action on Saturday, March 30, when they compete in the Murphy Cup on the Cooper River.
