PHILADELPHIA – Pat Christensen has been named Big 5 Co-Pitcher of the Week for games played April 15-21, the organization announced today. The recognition marks the third time this season that Christensen has earned the nod. He shares the weekly honor with Penn's Connor Cuff.
Christensen picked up a win and two saves in his three relief appearances last wekk, fanning four hitters in 4.1 innings of work. The senior improved his record to 5-1 on the season while upping his save total to eight, tied for the most in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Christensen worked a scoreless ninth in La Salle's 8-7 win over Delaware State on Wednesday to notch his fifth win of the season as the Blue and Gold pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the frame. Three days later, the La Jolla, Calif. native sat down the Minutemen in order in the ninth to seal a 9-7 La Salle victory while tallying his seventh save of the year.
The La Jolla product inherited a bases-loaded, two out jam in the seventh on Sunday afternoon and struck out the tying run to end the threat. He proceeded to fan three more Minutemen over the next two innings en route to his eighth save of the season as the Explorers won 6-2.
Christensen (5-1, 8 saves) has earned a win or save in 13 of La Salle's 18 victories this season. In relief, Christensen has given up two earned runs in 29.1 innings pitched (0.61 ERA) while striking out 34 hitters and walking only five. His numbers are similarly outstanding in conference play, tallying a 0.95 ERA while striking out 23 hitters in 19 innings of work. His eight saves this season are tied for the most in the A-10 while his 41 career saves are an all-time program and conference high while ranking in a four-way tie for eighth-most in NCAA Division I history.
