PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - La Salle junior MIke Johnson shot a team-best 76 on Sunday to tie for second place at the Rhody Invitational at Green Valley Country Club. Johnson had a 77 on Saturday, giving him a 36-hole total of 153 (+11) which was five shots off the pace.

As a team, the Explorers carded a similiar score each day, recording a 322 on Sunday after their 321 on Saturday. The two-round total of 643 was good for seventh place in the field but just seven shots out of third.

"The numbers don't show it but we played better today and beat a few more teams," head coach Brad Kane said. "It was really tough putting conditions and the greens were real quick."

Junior Tyler Fewell and freshman P.J. Acierno each tied for 29th with two-round scores of 163 (+21). Fewell had a 82-81 while Acierno went 77-86.

Sophomore Greg Goodreds recorded a 85-82=167 (+25) to tie for 38th while freshman Justin Smith had a 89-83=172 (+30) to finish 50th.

Host URI won the title with a 310-312=622, besting second-place Delaware by seven shots. Rhody's Branden Chicorka shot a 77-71=148 (+6) to capture medalist honors.

The Explorers are back on the links on Friday at the Manor Intercollegiate, hosted by Longwood.
