PHILADELPHIA –Wendy Hutchinson was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team for outdoor track and field, the conference office announced Thursday. The recognition marked the third time this year that Hutchinson earned the distinction from the A-10, having been named an all-conference selection in cross country and indoor track and field as well. She was the only female recipient this season to thrice earn the honor.
"Wendy Hutchinson's selection to the conference all-academic team is only further proof that when you do things to the best of your ability in all aspects of your life then good things will happen for you," head coach Dan Ireland said. "Wendy's second place finish in the conference 800m final with a pr and her high level of academic success in the class room goes to show that you can do both when you have your priorities in the right order. I am firm believer that when you have your academics in order you will have success on the track as well and Wendy is a perfect example of that."
Hutchinson performed admirably in her final outdoor track and field campaign, placing second at the A-10 Championships in the 800m run with a 2:10.14. The Dover product also ran the anchor leg of the 4x800m relay team which placed second with an 8:58.57. Hutchinson also played in integral role in breaking the school records in the DMR and 4x800m relay this season.
In day one at the Penn Relays, Hutchinson ran the opening 1200m leg of the DMR in 3:32.53, pacing the Explorers to an 11:39.94. The time eclipsed the previous record, set a year prior at 11:40.05, of which Hutchinson also ran the opening leg.
The Dover product ran the final leg of the 4x800m relay team which took down an 11-year old school record at the ECAC Indoor Championships in March. The Blue and Gold clocked an 8:57.48 in the event, anchored by Hutchinson en route to a fourth place finish.
The Dover, Pa. native was also gained Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Cross Country Performer of the Year status along with being named a USTFCCCA All-Academic choice in the fall.
Hutchinson carries a 3.96 GPA as a graduate student (MBA – management/finance) and posted a 3.80 GPA as an undergraduate.
