Christensen Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Baseball Performer of the Year

PHILADELPHIA – Pat Christensen has been named the 2013 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Baseball Performer of the Year, it was announced today. Christensen headlines an impressive list of 12 student-athletes selected from the 28 institutions in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.

On the mound, the right hander tallied 44 career saves, good for fifth-most in NCAA Division I history. The La Jolla, Calif. native concluded his career as the all-time ERA leader in program history (2.73) while ranking second in appearances (105), third in wins (17), and fourth in strikeouts (206). This season, Christensen earned a win or save in 17 of La Salle's 24 victories.

In the classroom, Christensen has posted a 3.61 GPA as an accounting major. He is a three-time Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference choice and was thrice named Big 5 Student-Athlete of the Year. He is a two-time CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honoree and earned Academic All-American status this season.

The La Jolla product was a 27th round selection of the Houston Astros in the MLB First-Year Player Draft over the weekend.
