PHILADELPHIA - La Salle senior rowers
Emma Brown and
Kellen Burke, and junior rower
Vincent Granese, were named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, based on a vote by the sports information directors at the 28 Philadelphia metro area colleges and universities.
Brown and Burke were rowers in this year's women's varsity eight, helping the boat to a silver medal at the Frostbite Regatta to highlight the season. They also rowed the varsity eight to fourth place finishes at both the Kerr Cup and Kelly Cup regattas and a top 12 finish out of 34 boats at the Head of the Occoquan.
Burke was also a four-year member of SAAC who coordinated Habitat for Humanity in Appalachia as well as the Explore-A-Cure and dodgeball fundraisers for breast cancer awareness. For her efforts she was this year's winner of the De La Salle Community Service Award, the top community service honor for student-athletes at La Salle.
Brown was an Atlantic 10 All-Conference pick this season, earning Second Team honors at this year's conference championship.
Granese was a member of this year's men's varsity eight, helping the boat to a gold medal at the Frostbite Regatta as well as silver at the Kerr Cup and bronze at the Bergen Cup.
He also helped the men's varsiety eight to a top five finish out of 14 boats at the Head of the Schuylkill. The varsity eight also posted a top 25 finish at the prestigious Head of the Charles and was the second Atlantic 10 boat to finish.
