PHILADELPHIA - Newly minted La Salle Crew Head Coach
Tom Madden has rounded out his staff, welcoming aboard
Colleen Greway,
Craig Bischoff and
Emily Close to the Explorers program.
Greway will serve as Varsity Assistant, Bischoff will be the team's freshman/novice coach and recruiting coordinator, and Close will assist the freshmen/novices as the team's graduate assistant. All three bring a plethora of experience to 20th and Olney in an exciting time of change for the La Salle Crew.
Greway comes to La Salle from Temple, where she served as the graduate assistant for the past two seasons. She helped guide the varsity eight, junior varsity eight and novice eight boats to the Dad Vail grand finals last year. Prior to Temple, she was the assistant coach at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pa., from 2010-12. While at Conestoga, her girls four and girls pair boats attended the prestigious Henley Regatta. She also has club coaching experience, serving stints at Bachelor's Barge Club and Fairmount Boat Club.
Greway was a four-year rower on the Saint Joseph's team that earned Atlantic 10 and Dad Vail medals as well as attended the Henley. She was a two-time Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference and three-time Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selection while earning SJU's Top Scholar-Athlete Award in 2010. She graduated in 2010 with a degree in Elementary & Special Education, and graduated Temple in 2013 with a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology.
Bischoff comes to La Salle after a decade-long position at Saint Joseph's Prep. Joining the prep in 2004, Bischoff earned several promotions and worked his way up from assistant novice coach to assistant varsity coach in charge of sculling and boatman. He was instrumental in forming a lifting program for the team and helped guide the squad to medals at the Stotesbury Regatta and Scholastic National Championship.
Bischoff served two years as the head novice coach at Saint Joseph's University from 2000-02 and had gotten his start in coaching with a one-year stint at Roman Catholic.
Bischoff was a four-year rower on the Saint Joseph's squad, rowing in the lightweight eight boat that won the Knecht Cup, Atlantic 10 Championship and Dad Vail. He graduated in 1999 with a degree in Accounting.
Close is starting her collegiate coaching career this season after wrapping up a four-year rowing career at Jacksonville University. She was a two-time team MVP and two-time team captain at JU, while volunteering at the Jacksonville Rowing Center. She graduated in May 2013 with a degree in Psychology and is working on her Master's in Marriage & Family Therapy here at La Salle.
The La Salle Crew is excited to welcome all three to the staff and looks forward to a strong year on the water. Stay tuned to GoExplorers.com for the announcement of the 2013-14 schedule.
