Mariel Papa opened the game with a quick score, but Hofstra rallied to take a 5-1 win over La Salle in the season opener for both squads in the Asics Invitational at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.

Devin Muracco just 5:54 into the contest to spot the Explorers (0-1) an early 1-0 lead.
Hofstra's Stella Schoen drained the first of her three goals just six minutes later and Marta Penas added a score at 14:38 as the Pride (1-0) gained a lead they would never relinquish. Schoen scored again at 24:07 on a Penas assist and added the game's final score at 62:33. Jonel Boileau added three points with a goal at 45:32 and an assist on Schoen's first score.
The Pride offense was relentless, peppering La Salle keeper
Lisa Shaffer with 37 shots, 20 of which were on goal. Shaffer recorded 15 saves, including several impressive diving saves.
Hofstra's defense clamped down as well, limiting the Explorers to just six shots.
Olivia Shoemaker led the Explorer effort with three shots on goal. The Pride also held an 11-2 advantage on penalty corners.
The Explorers will next compete in the consolation game of the Asics Invitational on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against either Syracuse or Quinnipiac.
