PHILADELPHIA - The Explorers (1-3) faced a tough slate of matchups on the second day of the La Salle Invitational. The Explorers faced off against eventual tournament champion Sacramento State to open the action on day two, falling 3 sets to 1 (11-25, 32-30, 22-25, 16-25). Later in the day, La Salle lost in four sets to the Bucknell Bison (21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 22-25).

In the first match of the day, Sacramento State rode a substantial hitting percentage advantage (.333 for Sacramento State - .072 for La Salle) to victory. The Explorers were able to pull level with the Hornets, winning the second set, giving the home crowd hope that the Blue & Gold could pull the upset. The Hornets rode a strong rally of four straight points at the end of the third set to regain control of the match and never looked back from there.

Freshman
Ashley Felton led the Explorers with 10 kills (.227), while sophomore
Kelly Perillo finished with 8 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore
Michelle Healy led the Explorers with 19 assists, while junior
Rachel Melich contributed 15 helpers.

The second match against Bucknell followed a very similar pattern to the first. Bucknell jumped out to the early lead, with La Salle evening the match at one set apiece. The third set was back in forth with both teams trading small leads before the Bison were able to string together seven points midway through the set to wrestle control of the match away from the Explorers.

Kelly Perillo set a new career high with 17 kills (.417) and 15 digs to pace the Explorers.
Laura Kuhlmeier also set a career high with 13 kills (.229) and 15 digs.
Rachel Melich led all players with 26 assists, while
Michelle Healy contributed 20.

The Explorers resume their schedule Wednesday September 4
th in Washington D.C., with a 7:00pm match at Howard University.
