Memphis – The Explorers were back in action Saturday afternoon, dropping their final match against the UALR Trojans in straight sets (15-25, 10-25, 12-25). Sophomore outside hitter
Laura Kuhlmeier led the Blue & Gold attack with 7 kills (.200), while freshman
Ashley Felton chipped in 2 kills and a block assists. Felton was named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team at the middle hitter position at the conclusion of the tournament.
The Explorers entered second day action at the Tiger Invitational looking to kick-start an offense that has struggled to find its groove without leading hitter
Kelly Perillo. UALR (8-4) was able to shutdown the Explorers with smothering defense, handling the Blue & Gold attack, out-blocking the Exporers 7-1 and out-digging them 35-25.
Laura Kuhlmeier continued to step-up as the team's primary attacker, racking up 7 kills (.200) and 7 digs.
Elena Lamping added 3 kills and 3 digs.
Rachel Melich and
Michelle Healy continued to create for the Explorer offense.
Michelle Healy chipped in 6 assists, while
Rachel Melich led the Blue & Gold with 9 helpers.
Sophomore libero
Erin Noga led the Explorers backline defense with 8 digs.
Ashley Felton played solidly for the Explorers throughout the two-day invitational. She amassed 9 kills and 5 block assists. She was named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the day's matches, the first such honor of her young Explorer career.
The Explorers (1-15) are back in action this coming Wednesday as they return home to the Tom Gola Arena for a 7:00pm match against NJIT.
