Lisa Shaffer made 11 saves in a strong effort on Friday afternoon, but the Explorers could not overcome a 31-5 shot differential in a 4-0 loss at Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights improve to 2-1, while the Explorers drop to 0-3.
Rutgers opened scoring in the 16th minute when Laura Rose converted off of a penalty corner. Sophie Wright added two scores before the halftime break in the 28th and 35th minutes. Rachel Yaney scored the final goal in the 38th minute, but the Explorer defense clamped down and did not allow a goal the rest of the game.
The Scarlet Knights held a 13-1 penalty corner edge.
Shaffer saved 11, while Rutgers' Sarah Stuby earned the win while making one save on an
Olivia Shoemaker shot on goal.
The Explorers open the home schedule on Sunday, when they host UMass Lowell at noon at DeVincent Field.
