ST. LOUIS – La Salle forward
Kelsey Haycook netted the game-winning goal in the 86
th minute on an assist from
Maryam Huseini, who tied the career assist record on the play, as the Explorers handled the Saint Louis Billikens 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Haycook headed in Huseini's corner kick at the 85:56 mark in the second half to lift the Explorers (9-4-2, 5-0) to their fifth straight win. The assist was Huseini's seventh of the season and 33
rd of her career, tying her with Amy Schneider (1999-2002) for most in La Salle women's soccer history.
Saint Louis (7-8, 2-3) fired three shots over the final 4:04, and La Salle keeper
Jessica Wiggins came up with a save with eight seconds remaining to seal the victory. Wiggins tallied three saves on the afternoon.
After Saint Louis took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 22
nd minute,
Kerri Aiken tied the game at 1-1 with her second goal of the season in the 34
th minute.
Anna Dolhansky picked up her second assist of the year on the play.
Saint Louis recorded 17 shots on the afternoon compared to 14 for La Salle, but the Explorers landed eight shots on goal to four by the Billikens.
The women play their final regular season home game of the season on Friday when they host George Mason at McCarthy Stadium.
