Huseini Sets All-Time Assists Record in 4-1 Win over George Mason

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Maryam Huseini set the La Salle women's soccer all-time assists record on her first of three assists as the Explorers throttled the George Mason Patriots 4-1 on Senior Night at McCarthy Stadium on Friday.

Huseini's record-breaking assist also gave the Explorers a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute as she fired a corner kick into the box to Kelsey Haycook, who headed the ball past the keeper in the air for the score. The assist was the 34th of Huseini's career, pushing her past Amy Schneider for sole possession of the all-time lead in assists.

Haycook's goal was in the middle of a 10-minute span late in the first half that saw the Blue and Gold score three times to quickly erase a 1-0 lead for George Mason. Kerri Aiken started the barrage with a game-tying goal in the 27th minute on a header to the lower left corner on an assist from Paige McDowell.

Huseini and Haycook connected for a second time in the 37th minute to make it 3-1 in favor of the Explorers. Huseini pushed a free kick from the near side to Haycook, who redirected it to the lower left corner of the net for her 15th goal of the year.

Gabriella Carbone was the recipient of Huseini's third helper, burying the midfielder's pass in the bottom of the net towards the far post in the 87th minute. The goal was Carbone's first of the season and Huseini's 10th assist of the year.

La Salle keeper Jessica Wiggins tallied five saves to earn her 10th win of the season.

Prior to the game the Explorers recognized the careers of Carbone, Emily Fenton, Katie Getzinger, Haycook, Huseini, and Wiggins in a pregame ceremony.  The group of seniors went a perfect 16-0 in conference games at McCarthy Stadium, and leave an intact streak of 17 straight home conference wins dating back to October 2010.

The Explorers are on the road for their final two A-10 regular season games next weekend as they visit Duquesne on Friday and St. Bonaventure on Sunday night.
