PITTSBURGH – The La Salle women's soccer team clinched its seventh straight win with a 2-0 shutout of the Duquesne Dukes on Friday night at Rooney Field. The win clinched the Atlantic 10 regular season championship for the Explorers, the third regular season title in the past four years.
The Explorers (11-4-2, 7-0 A-10) netted a goal in each half as
Jessica Wiggins tallied four saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season. La Salle limited the Dukes (5-10-3, 2-5-1 A-10) to just a pair of corner kicks while taking five on the night.
Kristin Haugstad poked in the rebound of a
Deja Davis shot with five seconds remaining in the opening half to give the Explorers a 1-0 advantage just before the break. The goal was Haugstad's fourth of the season and the second helper for Davis.
Kelsey Haycook added an insurance goal in the 61
st minute, depositing a cross from
Jessika Kagan for her league-leading 16
th goal of the season. Kagan picked up her fourth assist of the year on the play.
The Explorers fired a total of 17 shots on the night, including eight that fell on target against DU keeper Devon Tabata.
The Explorers will wrap up their regular season schedule on Sunday as they go for an eighth straight win and undefeated conference record at St. Bonaventure at 12 p.m.
