Kelsey Haycook scored twice to set the single-season goals record as the Explorers downed St. Bonaventure 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to complete the season with a perfect 8-0 record in Atlantic 10 conference play.
Haycook surpassed Lisa McDermott's record of 17 goals scored in the 1987 season with her second goal of the day, and 18
th of the season, in the 66
th minute on an assist from
Maryam Huseini. The helper was Huseini's 11
th of the year.
The Point Pleasant, N.J. native tied the mark with a strike in the 39
th minute to give the Blue and Gold a 1-0 advantage just before the break.
Kristin Haugstad supplied the assist, which was her fifth of the season.
La Salle senior goalkeeper
Jessica Wiggins earned her second straight shutout and her sixth of the season. The Acton, Mass. native corralled six saves to record her 12
th win of the year.
La Salle didn't allow a corner kick to the Bonnies while taking nine, and outshot SBU 18-9 on the afternoon.
The Explorers have clinched the No. 1 seed for the Atlantic 10 tournament, which begins on Thursday at Dayton University
