DAYTON, Ohio – The top-seeded La Salle women's soccer team toppled UMass 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the A-10 tournament to advance to Friday's semifinal at Dayton's Bajuan Field.
"It was a great team win for our girls," said head coach
Paul Royal. "I thought UMass came out with a lot of energy and fight, but our girls responded really well."
Maryam Huseini gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the season following a corner kick in the 13
th minute.
Anna Dolhansky threaded a pass to Huseini in the left side of the box, and the senior midfielder lofted a shot over UMass keeper Danielle Kriscenski into the far corner of the net.
Jessika Kagan made it 2-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold in the 73
rd minute, burying Huseini's pass to the lower left corner of the net from the top of the 18-yard box.
Fia Jonsson put the game away for La Salle in the 83
rd minute, fielding a pass from Kagan and firing the ball through Kriscenski's legs for her first career goal.
The Explorers poured in 18 shots compared to 10 for UMass, and landed a staggering 11 shots on goal against Kriscenski.

Jessica Wiggins recorded four saves to collect her eighth shutout of the season. The La Salle backline limited the Minutewomen to just a pair of corner kicks for the game while the Explorers took eight in the game.
"We were pleased that our girls again found a way to get another shutout win," added Royal. "We're really excited to build on our momentum for tomorrow's game."
The Explorers await the winner of the match between No. 4 George Washington and No. 5 Rhode Island this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Friday's semifinal matchup is set for 5 p.m.
