DAYTON, Ohio
– The top-seeded La Salle women's soccer team toppled UMass 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the A-10 tournament to advance to Friday's semifinal at Dayton's Bajuan Field.

"It was a great team win for our girls," said head coach Paul Royal. "I thought UMass came out with a lot of energy and fight, but our girls responded really well."

Maryam Huseini gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the season following a corner kick in the 13th minute. Anna Dolhansky threaded a pass to Huseini in the left side of the box, and the senior midfielder lofted a shot over UMass keeper Danielle Kriscenski into the far corner of the net.

Jessika Kagan made it 2-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold in the 73rd minute, burying Huseini's pass to the lower left corner of the net from the top of the 18-yard box.

Fia Jonsson put the game away for La Salle in the 83rd minute, fielding a pass from Kagan and firing the ball through Kriscenski's legs for her first career goal.

The Explorers poured in 18 shots compared to 10 for UMass, and landed a staggering 11 shots on goal against Kriscenski.

La Salle goalkeeper Jessica Wiggins recorded four saves to collect her eighth shutout of the season. The La Salle backline limited the Minutewomen to just a pair of corner kicks for the game while the Explorers took eight in the game.

"We were pleased that our girls again found a way to get another shutout win," added Royal. "We're really excited to build on our momentum for tomorrow's game."

The Explorers await the winner of the match between No. 4 George Washington and No. 5 Rhode Island this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Friday's semifinal matchup is set for 5 p.m.
