PHILADELPHIA –
Kelsey Haycook netted a pair of goals in the first half before
Anna Dolhansky scored her first goal of the season in the second half to help the La Salle women's soccer team (6-4-2, 2-0) to a 3-1 win over the VCU Rams (5-4-3, 1-1) at McCarthy Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Haycook set the tempo for the Explorers almost immediately, finding pay dirt just 38 seconds into the action.
Maryam Huseini threaded a cross towards the box, which Haycook gathered and then beat the VCU keeper high to the near post for her ninth goal of the year.
The senior forward scored her 10
th goal of the year in the 19
th minute to put the Explorers in front 2-0. Haycook beat the keeper low inside the far post following a cross from freshman
Kristin Haugstad on the far side of the field.
Dolhansky made it a 3-0 advantage in the 81
st minute after
Madison Bower headed a ball forward to Huseini, who found Dolhnanksy streaking towards the box. As the keeper came out of the net in an attempt to smother the play, the senior used a touch to gain control and dribbled left for a clear view before firing the ball into the left side of the goal.
The assist was Huseini's second of the day and sixth on the season, which leaves the senior just one assist shy of tying Amy Schneider's all-time career record of 33.
The Rams spoiled La Salle's shutout bid in the 83
rd minute as VCU's Megan Dell put the ball in following a skirmish in front of the net. Goalkeeper
Jessica Wiggins tallied seven saves against 14 shots on the afternoon.
The Blue and Gold conclude their five-game homestand on Saturday when they welcome the Fordham Rams (6-5, 0-1) to McCarthy Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
